Children’s Cycling Safety Guide – Safety Rules for Cycling
When children ride on bicycles with curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring the world, safety issues during riding are of utmost importance. In order to let children enjoy the fun of riding while staying away from danger, parents and children must keep in mind the following precautions during riding.
Strictly abide by the riding regulations
Whether riding in a community, park or on the road, teaching children to obey traffic rules is the first prerequisite for ensuring safety. Let children develop the habit of riding on the right side, not against the flow, and avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles or pedestrians. When passing through an intersection, even if there are no vehicles, you should stop and observe, and continue to move forward after confirming that it is safe. In particular, remember “stop at red lights and go at green lights”. Don’t run red lights just because you are in a hurry or think there is no danger. If there is a bicycle lane in the riding area, you must ride in the bicycle lane. If there is no bicycle lane, you should ride along the right edge of the road and keep a safe distance from motor vehicles.
Control riding speed
Children are naturally lively and active, and they are easily excited and speed up when riding. However, riding too fast will increase the risk factor and make it difficult to deal with emergencies. Parents should remind their children to control the speed reasonably according to the road conditions and their own abilities. On flat, open and sparsely populated roads, you can increase the speed appropriately to enjoy the pleasure of riding; but on bends, downhill sections, and crowded places, you must slow down and ride carefully. When going downhill, teach your children how to use the brakes, avoid squeezing the brakes for a long time, and prevent the wheels from locking and causing falls. You can use the brakes to control the speed steadily.
Keep a safe distance
When riding, it is very important to keep a safe distance from other cyclists, pedestrians, and parked vehicles. Tell your children not to ride side by side with friends or play around, as this will not only easily distract attention, but may also cause collisions and falls. When overtaking pedestrians or vehicles in front, observe the surrounding situation in advance, overtake from the left after confirming that it is safe, and give a loud reminder, such as “Excuse me”, to let the other party know your intention. At the same time, stay away from parked vehicles on the roadside to prevent the car doors from opening suddenly and making it difficult to dodge.
Children’s cycling safety is no small matter, and every detail is related to the health and safety of children. I hope that parents can carefully learn these cycling precautions with their children, so that children can enjoy the joy and growth brought by cycling under the protection of safety!
